Information on kneecap chondropathy
What is chondropathy?
The patella is a small bone of the human body that due to its location in the knee joint is stressed because the loads in motion are enormous and far exceed the body weight of the human being. Chondropathy is a very common condition in the area of the anterior surface of the knee. Because of the damage to the articular cartilage, the synovial membrane becomes inflamed, causing aseptic inflammation, pain and irritation.
Causes of chondropathy
Chondropathy is caused as a result of abrupt and continuous compression of the patella at the point of the femur or as a consequence of alteration of the patella's trajectory. Over time the cartilage degenerates. The reasons for degeneration of the cartilage are the weakness of the lateral femoral muscle and the lower limb dysfunction, ie the presence of flatulence, cavitation or excessive use of the posture that disrupts proper leg function.
Symptoms of chondropathy
The symptoms of chondropathy are as follows:
- Pain in sitting position
- Walking problems
- Unable to move the knee completely and to crush the movements
Diagnosis for chondropathy
The diagnosis of the disease is done by obtaining a detailed patient history and radiography, magnetic resonance imaging and knee arthroscopy.
Treatment for chondropathy
Treatment of the acute phase of the disease is to stop any movement that causes pain to the sufferer. Laser treatments, iontophoresis, dressing of the affected knee and application of special shoe with special soles are applied. An anti-inflammatory drug is often required. When inflammation and pain recede, the patient must perform exercises of strengthening the quadriceps muscle with isometric exercises, a progressive increase in resistance and proprioceptive exercises.
The appropriate specialty
The appropriate doctor for chondropathy is the orthopedic.
